Travel Grants Supporting Participation in the 2022 International Melville Society Conference

13th International Melville Society Conference: “Melville’s Energies: Aesthetics, Politics, Ecologies”

Paris, France
June 27-30, 2022

Deadline for Travel Grant Requests: March 11, 2022

We are happy to announce travel grants for conference participants with limited funds!

We will award at least five travel grants to help defray travel costs, lodging, and other expenses for conference participants with limited travel funding available, in order to enable them to present their work at our thirteenth international conference in Paris.

Grant recipients will receive $300 stipends and have their conference registration fees waived. Additional grants are possible if our fundraising efforts are successful.

These awards have been designed to support contingent faculty, graduate students with limited access to travel funding, scholars who are not otherwise able to afford international travel, and others for whom travel to the conference would present significant financial hardship. We will evaluate applications by considering both need and the quality of proposals, with priority given to early-career scholars and people who would most benefit from participation in the Melville Society at this point in their professional lives. Formal acceptance to be part of the conference is also required.

To apply please send the following materials: (1) a statement of up to 500 words that outlines the reasons that attending our conference would be especially beneficial at this point in your career, (2) an abstract of your accepted conference paper, your workshop proposal, or an equivalent document, and (3) your current vita. Please send your materials as a single PDF document to the awards committee (Meredith Farmer, Wyn Kelley, and Ed Sugden) at melvillesocietytravelawards@gmail.com. Applicants who have not received Melville Society travel grants in the past will be prioritized.

Applications for the next international conference in Paris 2022 are due by 5 PM on Friday, March 11th.

If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the fund to ensure its ongoing availability, please visit our Fundly page.
