Leviathan 18.1 includes essays on multiple temporalities in "Benito Cereno" and narratives of orphanhood in Pierre. It also includes a special section of "Extracts" devoted to the Tenth Melville Conference in Japan, featuring keynote addresses by Karen Tei Yamashita, Natzuki Ikezawa, and Yoji Sakate, along with conference reports and a photo gallery. Also appearing in the issue are two review essays, each of which addresses three recent books that touch on Melville studies.
