We are seeking donations of your "unnecessary duplicates" of Melville texts, biography, and criticism for use in libraries, schools, and institutes abroad. Many institutions simply do not own books by or about Melville.
We initiated a Book Donation program after the first international meeting of the Melville Society in Volos, Greece, in 1997, and have since sent collections to Russia, India (two institutions), China (two institutions), Palestine, the Ukraine, Algeria, Iran, and Argentina (eight countries on four continents!). Michael Dyer, the Senior Maritime Historian at the New Bedford Whaling Museum Research Library, which houses the Melville Society Archive, has agreed to serve as a collection point for such donations.
