13th International Melville Society Conference - Paris, France: June 27-30, 2022
Originally planned in June 2021, but postponed for reasons we all know too well, the Thirteenth International Melville Society Conference took place in Paris from June 27 to June 30, 2022. The conference explored Melville's life, work, and legacies through a series of papers and conversations devoted to the theme of “Melville’s Energies” broadly conceived over four days of panels, roundtables, plenary talks, and special events.
The conference was hosted at several venues: Sorbonne Université and Université Sorbonne Nouvelle on days 1 and 4, situated in the Quartier Latin, which Melville explored during his 1849 trip to Paris; and Université de Paris on days 2 and 3.
The 2022 conference featured plenary addresses by Jennifer Greiman, Associate Professor of English at Wake Forest University, and Jeffrey Insko, Professor of English at Oakland University.
